Caption Reporters Launches

Some captioning services venturing into remote captioning have been plagued by service interruptions inherent in most manual switch gear.
The Caption Reporters Remote Switch allows a captioner in San Francisco, for example, to hand off the assignment to another in Maine in a way which is completely seamless - invisible to the viewer and to the client.
Glitchless Transfer
"Our service is glitchless," said Caption Reporters President Lorraine Carter, "because we've solved the problem of data-stream management.
We're computer based, digital and automated, so there's no breakdown in the signal stream. Captioning continues un-interrupted and accurately regardless of the length of the project.
Carter says her process is somewhat akin to a broadcast production booth.
"We can see real-time displays of what our captioners are doing on computer screens here at the office, just like broadcast producers can see what different cameras are doing.
"We can monitor Captioner # 1 on the broadcast screen, and we can watch Captioner #2 getting warmed up at another remote location on the 'preview' screen. When #2 is up to speed we press the 'switch" button.
Our automated gear chooses the right micro-second for the transfer and the viewer never sees the hand-off point. They can concentrate on the information content, not the captioning technology or the lack of it.
Manual switching, Carter said, often leaves a blank spot, or worse, line loss - which means no service at all until a com-link is re-established.
"Plus," Carter added, "we're no longer limited by the number of professional captioners available in any geographic area, or in a given time zone.
We can draw from the best captioners anywhere in the country - or anywhere in the world, for that matter.
We can provide our clients with seamless, accurate long-duration captioning where and when they need it, for as long as they need it."
